We can also work with probabilities. Of course underneath them there is the same question of validity. But this way we already can be more relaxed. Eventually we do what is suggested: dance with reality.

One thought: perhaps uncertainty is even more fundamental than philosophy. The neuroscientist Mark Solms argues that consciousness evolved because organisms must constantly make predictions and correct their course in an unpredictable world. Feeling isn’t an accidental by-product of the brain but part of how life copes with uncertainty. If that’s right, philosophical uncertainty isn’t simply an intellectual discovery or a spiritual challenge. It’s the reflective form of a problem every living organism has always faced. The question then isn’t how to eliminate uncertainty but how to live well within it.
