Terrific article and synopsis of his work. If every high school and college student read “Manufactuting Consent” and truly understood its implications we wouldn’t have the problems or wars that we have. Thanks for the reminder of how important Prof. Chomsky’s work is!

I’m old now. - fortunate enough to have received a university and post-graduate education just before the end of the era when its ostensible purpose, at least, was teaching people how, rather than what, to think. Of course, looking back, I could have paid more attention, but it has served me pretty well. All who came after me are not so lucky. Chomsky is certainly astute in his exegesis, just 50 years too late to anyone any good.

I remember how strongly the Bush administration fought to keep people from calling 911 a crime as opposed to an act of war. All about the framing.

I’ve often said that ostensible ’democracies’ rely on two tools to maintain their legitimacy. One is narrative. The other is the gun barrel.

Right now, the narratives aren’t working so well …
